Abstract

In this paper, we make an inventory and an interpretation of the symbolic elements of the ritual burial funeral, held at the Sacred Heart cemetery in the city of Maracaibo. To collect the information the ethnographic method of participant observation was used, supplemented with interviews and photographs of participants in the rite. From antroposemiotica perspective, we explain the semantic and semiotic values present within this practice, as well as the relations of Maracaibo community with the idea of life and death.
