Marriage and customary law in the Yukpa-Parirí Nation: Toward an understanding of the social origens of the State and Penalty Law

Abstract

This article shows the results of an ethnographic analysis on the Yukpa-Parirí marriage institution and the ritual forms in their customary law based on ethnographic fieldwork, observations and interviews carried out during 8 years in the community of Kasmera, in the rain forest. From the Sierra de Perijá, a few kilometers from the Colombian-Venezuelan border. Following the perspective of cultural materialism, and the theoretical proposals on customary law proposed by Colmenares Ricardo (2014) and Castro Daniel (2018), it is concluded by stating that Kasmera is founded and unified in the relationships of filiation and affinity among its members, founded all in marriage [Etampato].
