Procession of the holy virgin Lucia in the historic place of Santa Lucía

Abstract

This research analyzes the procession of Santa Lucia of the parish of the same name Maracaibo Municipality. This procession is an important part of the tradition of Empedrao. Taking as a framework to Mangieri (2006), Turner (1900), Garcia (2004), Boom (1987) and Silva (1992). Ethnographic method was used, applying the technique of participant observation, semi-structured interview and photographs. Hermeneutic analysis was applied to the information provided by the partners. The results reveal that the procession is a ritual cohesive in thinking and in the daily practices of luciteño.
