San Lázaro pilgrimage: its influence on the territorial dynamics of the town of Rincón- Cuba

Abstract

Studies of the geography of religion and the geography of religious practices are a pending subject in the Cuban context. The objective of this article is to describe the influence, on the territorial dynamics of the town of Rincón, of the annual pilgrimage to the San Lázaro National Sanctuary. This is a contribution to local actors in their actions on the environment, the economic and socio-cultural activities of said town. To achieve the proposed objective, the following methods and techniques were used: case study, field observation, interview, documentary analysis, cartographic research method, photographic technique, data representation technique, and methodological triangulation. The results obtained support a prospective that will allow decision-makers and residents to assess a group of actions in terms of territorial and environmental planning of the town of Rincón for its further endogenous development that the country needs.
